Disruption likely as Met Office forecasts week of rain and heavy winds in North East

Make sure to pack an umbrella on your travels this week as the North East looks set for seven days of strong winds and rainy spells.

According to leading meteorologists at the Met Office, the region will experience mild conditions but rainy spells and strong winds are likely to temper this during a wet week (between November 7-13).

Following a month of above-average temperatures in October, November began in a less settled tone with flooding in some parts of the North East leading to some disruption.

According to the Met Office, the North East should expect the following conditions on Monday: "Fine in the east first thing, but very soon becoming generally cloudy, with spells of rain and strengthening winds, perhaps with gales in exposure later. Mild in shelter. Maximum temperature 14 °C."

The outlook from Tuesday to Thursday will carry on as Monday left off with more rain expected with winds also likely to add some disruption despite the continued mild temperatures.

The Met Office is expecting the following conditions: "Unsettled and often windy, particularly into Tuesday, with further bouts of rain and showers otherwise expected. Generally mild or very mild, but the feel of this tempered by the wind.

"Thursday is likely to be cloudy for many, with rain expected in the north and northwest, where occasional gales could be felt. Remaining mostly dry and mild elsewhere."

As we head into next weekend, there is likely to be a marked northwest-southeast split in our region with spells of rain and strong winds expected and even the risk of gales in the northwest of the North East.

In the southern parts of the region, however, more settled conditions are to be expected.

The Met Office have forecast the following conditions for the remainder of the week: "A northwest-southeast split is expected to develop into the weekend, bringing unsettled conditions across the north and northwest with more settled weather in southern parts.

"Spells of rain and stronger winds are most likely to affect the northwest, with a risk of gales remaining over the weekend."
