Disruption concerns raised at Cross Tay Link Road consultations in Luncarty and Scone

More than 150 people turned out to view plans for the new Cross Tay Link Road and raise concerns with main contractor BAM Nuttall about the project.

The two ‘Meet the Contractor’ events in Luncarty and Scone were organised by BAM and Perth and Kinross Council.

In Scone common questions raised on the evening included when will residents get a programme of works for the project, and how will this be communicated; concerns about disruption to core paths, and traffic management particularly around Scone Palace and the racecourse were also flagged up as issues.

The sessions raised a number of different topics that people had concerns about.

In Luncarty concerns centred on how would traffic management impact on travel times to Perth during construction, what routes for access to the works site will be used, and how will access to fishing rights on the River Tay be impacted.

The sessions were a chance for BAM to address these concerns and inform the local communities on the design, construction programme and sequencing of the works. Information on progress to date and ongoing early works activities was also presented, including archaeological excavations and site clearance activities.

“I was delighted to see so many enthusiastic people coming along to find out what will be happening and when, and to see and hear first-hand the benefits this new piece of road infrastructure will deliver for the area,” said the council’s roads infrastructure manager Jillian Ferguson.

“The Cross Tay Link Road has been a number of years in the planning and it is great to now be at the stage where we can showcase what the end project will look like.”

“With a project of this size there is clearly going to be some concerns about levels of disruption, and environmental impacts so this was a great opportunity to allay fears and concerns that local people might have. Hopefully they will feel more reassured about the project after speaking to us,” said BAM Nuttall’s project director William Diver.

The events also marked the launch of a recruitment drive for two new community groups who will work with BAM to deliver community benefit projects in the area.
