Major repairs to a gas main on a street in Bulwell have left some residents questioning what is going on after a series of issues.
Gas company Cadent has been working on the road for a week and shall be there until the start of next month.
Issues mentioned have been around the roadworks and being left without gas for days.
Natasha Wardle, 26, from Bulwell said that because she doesn’t have a car, it isn’t affecting her too badly.
“It doesn’t really affect me because I don’t drive but it is a bit of nuisance," she said.
"My neighbour and I got a letter at around Christmas time letting us know that work would be going on.
“Tomorrow I’ll have no gas and boiler but you’ve just got to deal with it.”
One woman with a young child who didn’t want to be named said she had her gas turned back on after being without it for a few days but has been told it will be turned off again.
“It’s been terrible," she said. "They switched me off at 8am on Friday and it only just came back. I’ve approached Cadent twice already to complain."
Susan Green, 60 from Bulwell, said it had been a “nightmare”.
“I come here often to visit my friend because she’s been ill and it’s been a nightmare waiting for lorries to get by," said the receptionist.
"I know people walking the long way around because footpaths are closed and it’s just a bit of a mess and when your inside sometimes, it just reeks of gas.
“I get these workers have a job to do but when you come here a lot or if you live on the street it’s just not ideal but it shouldn’t be for too much longer.”
A Cadent spokesperson said: “Cadent are working on Newmarket Road completing a vital gas mains upgrade, this project involves laying 700m of new plastic pipe to replace the existing ageing iron gas main. Normally a project like this would take around 7 weeks. However, we have a specialist team on site who can complete this project in only 2 weeks using multiple excavations therefore minimising the overall disruption.
"We would like to apologise for any inconvenience this work has caused, and a customer representative will be visiting the site to answer any questions residents have."
