Disney World, Disneyland May Bring Back Classic Attractions

Disney World in Orlando and the Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, Calif., have been busy lately opening new rides and attractions and refurbishing older ones to keep guests returning to the parks for new excitement.

Tron Lightcycle Run just opened April 4 at Disney World's Magic Kingdom in Tomorrowland. Potential riders will need to sign up in the virtual queue for a run time.

Mickey's Toontown land at Disneyland reopened on March 19 after being closed for refurbishments since March 9, 2022. Toontown features a new ride that already runs at Disney World's Hollywood Studios, Mickey & Minnie's Runaway Railway. In addition to the new Mickey & Minnie ride, Toontown opened a new park area known as CenTOONial Park that includes a new centerpiece Mickey fountain as well as a children's play area, Goofy's How-to-Play Yard.

Hyperspace Mountain Returning to Disneyland

Disneyland is currently transforming its Space Mountain thrill ride in Tomorrowland into Hyperspace Mountain, a limited-time experience beginning May 1 to coincide with Star Wars Month at the theme park, which runs May 1 through June 4. Guests at Disneyland will touch down in a galaxy far away, the theme park says, with exciting flavors.

The Star Wars-themed overlay on the Hyperspace Mountain ride will feature scenes of X-Wings, Starfighters and the Millennium Falcon flashing on the interior walls of Space Mountain to replicate the illusion of space travel on the ride. The Star Wars themed Hyperspace Mountain was first introduced during Disneyland's Season of the Force in 2015.

The park has not revealed all of the details for Star Wars Month, but expect to learn specifics this month. The classic Space Mountain is expected to reopen June 5, 2023.

Disneyland on April 22, 2022, began observing the 50th-anniversary celebration of the Main Street Electrical Parade, which continued until Sept. 1, 2022. Along with the parade, Disneyland launched its Disneyland Forever fireworks display, while California Adventure in Anaheim presented the World of Color water, color, and light spectacular in that park's Paradise Bay.

The Main Street Electrical Parade debuted at Disneyland on June 17, 1972, and continued until 1996. A version of the parade was introduced at Disney World on June 11, 1977, and continued through 1991. The parade has also made appearances at other Disney parks over the years, including California Adventure.

The Electrical Parade features floats decorated with thousands of sparkling lights accompanied by an electronic musical score based on "Baroque Hoedown" by Jean-Jacques Perrey and Gershon Kingsley. The parade was the first to play unique musical arrangements synchronized to each float unit.

Main Street Electrical Parade May Return

Disneyland and Disney World guests are such big fans of the classic Main Street Electrical Parade that rumors are already circulating that the parade will make a seasonal return to Disneyland this summer, sources have told WDW News. The parade will then make its way across the country to Disney World after the summer and make an appearance in Orlando either in late 2023 or early 2024.

After the Electrical Parade returns to Orlando, another classic parade, Paint the Night, is expected to return to Disneyland in 2024.
