EastEnders star Danny Dyer has been spotted filming a scene in Bristol city centre for an upcoming show for Disney+. Queen Square was partially blocked off on today (June 28) and transformed into Russet Street, a fictitious road in London, for a new series called Rivals.
Rivals is an adaptation produced by Happy Prince of a 1988 Jilly Cooper novel of the same name starring a stellar cast, including David Tennant, Aidan Turner, Katherine Parkinson, Lisa McGrillis, Alex Hassell, Emily Atack and Danny Dyer. The plot is set in the fictional English county of Rutshire following a rivalry between Rupert Campbell-Black (Hassell) and Lord Tony Baddingham (Tennant) in the world of television.
Appearing to don a dark brown wig, television and theatre star Danny Dyer was spotted on set in the historic area of Bristol which will double up as London for the series. The 45-year-old actor who plays Freddie Jones was filming a scene driving a Sinclair C5, a small one-person battery electric recumbent tricycle, created in the 1980s.

In the scene, the camera followed the actor down the path alongside Queen Square while Dyer recited his lines. The crews filmed several takes for the shot.
The square was filled with crew and cast members including a handful of vintage vehicles driving by for the scene. There was also a newspaper stand on the corner of Royal Oak Avenue as well as a bright red postbox with crew lorries and vehicles lining around the outside of Queen Square.
Members of the public watched on from a distance as the filming took place. This portion of Queen Square from Mill Avenue to Middle Avenue - on the Grove Avenue side - will be closed off until 1am on Thursday (June 29), although it is still accessible for pedestrians and cyclists.
Rivals became the first production to use TBY2, a new state-of-the-art facility at The Bottle Yard Studios in Hengrove. Filming also took place in Gloucestershire and Somerset earlier in the year.
