In a significant legal victory for Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, a federal judge in Florida dismissed Disney's lawsuit against him and his political allies. The lawsuit was filed by the entertainment giant in response to a bill signed by DeSantis, which granted him and the state of Florida increased authority over the 47 square mile district containing Walt Disney World Resort. Prior to the bill, this area had been largely self-governed by Disney.
The lawsuit, which the judge deemed lacked merit, accused Governor DeSantis of using his political power to retaliate against Disney for exercising its right to free speech. The feud between the two parties originated approximately two years ago when Disney publicly criticized a bill introduced by DeSantis. This bill sought to prohibit certain forms of instruction related to sexual orientation and gender identity in Florida classrooms.
