Disgruntled East Lothian man finds 'baby maggots' in his McDonald's chicken McNuggets

An East Lothian man claims to have found baby maggots inside his box of chicken McNuggets.

The Dunbar man, who wishes to remain anonymous, took to social media to share pictures of his 20-piece-McNuggets box that came with a nasty surprise.

In the images, shared with Edinburgh Live, a small yellow and white substance can be seen on the chicken nuggets, and the McDonald's customer believes that this could be “baby maggots.”

Bosses at McDonald's, meanwhile, said an investigation revealed nothing to suggest the "alleged foreign object" originated from their branch.

The box was ordered from the McDonald’s restaurant at the end of Spott Road on the afternoon of Saturday June 25.

The customer expressed his horror by posting: “Bought from Dunbar McDonald's today - make sure you check your nuggets are [not] full of baby maggots.”

Speaking to Edinburgh Live, the punter told how his wife only noticed there was a problem with their meal after he had taken a bite out of it.

He said: "We went to McDonald's around 2pm and got our usual order - two meals and 20 nuggets. We always take our McDonald's home to eat it - done it a million times before.

"We take our meals out the bag and leave the nuggets at the bottom of the bag with the lids shut. We were full after our meal and went back to them about 20 minutes later.

"I actually just put my hand into the box and ate a couple without looking. My wife actually told me to stop eating, there was maggots on them. To my shock and disbelief there was actually maggots on my nuggets."

The grossed out customer said he tried to complain to the Dunbar branch but failed to get through. He added: "I tried calling the McDonald's in Dunbar many times to no answer so I left a TripAdvisor review online. I need to send a email to McDonald's main office."

A spokesperson for McDonald’s said: "Following an investigation, we have found nothing to suggest the alleged foreign object originated from the restaurant. We are, of course, disappointed the customer did not have the experience they expected and would encourage them to contact our Customer Services team to help find a resolution.”
