'Disgraceful refereeing' - Everton fans furious as Man City escape late VAR penalty decision

Everton fans have reacted angrily whilst Manchester City fans have breathed a sigh of relief as VAR denied the hosts a late penalty.

With the game edging towards its conclusion, the contentious moment came late on when Rodri controlled the ball with the upper part of his arm.

Referee Paul Tierney allowed play to continue after the initial incident and Stockley Park reviewed the decision, sticking with the on-field call.

The decision was met with the dismay of the majority of Merseyside as Liverpool fans watched on in angst as they watched their city rivals against their fellow title challengers.

Phil Foden's second-half goal proved to be the difference and restored a bit of breathing space between Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp's side.

MEN Sport looks at how fans reacted to the decision.

A potentially key moment in the title race meant that City went on to claim a hard-earned three points at Goodison Park and go six points clear with Liverpool in Carabao Cup final action on Sunday.

But at the bottom end of the table, it was a chance for Everton to salvage a point as they tread close to the relegation zone.

Ashley Cole, a member of Frank Lampard's coaching staff, was visibly upset at full-time and had a choice words for the official.
