Diogo Dalot reacts to Manchester United return in Bournemouth victory

Diogo Dalot is 'delighted' to make his return to Old Trafford after nearly two months since his last appearance for Manchester United.

United continued their fine form since club football's resumption and kicked 2023 off in style with a dominant 3-0 victory over Bournemouth on Tuesday. Casemiro opened the scoring as he turned in Christian Eriksen's delivery before Luke Shaw started and finished off a fine move for the second. It was the left-back's cross-field pass to Bruno Fernandes that led to Marcus Rashford being teed up to make it three.

Though it wasn't all positive as United lost Donny van de Beek to injury following a nasty tackle, they did at least welcome Dalot back from a brief spell on the sidelines. The right-back hadn't played for United since the Carabao Cup victory over Aston Villa on November 10.

Dalot was suspended for United's final game before the World Cup break and then suffered a hamstring injury while representing Portugal in Qatar that saw him miss United's first three games following the tournament. However, he returned in place of Aaron Wan-Bissaka for the final 21 minutes against the Cherries and is happy to be back.

"Delighted to be back at Old Trafford," he tweeted alongside a photograph of himself clapping the supporters. "Great effort from the team and another solid win, let’s keep it going @ManUtd."

United have won all their four games and are yet to concede a goal since the restart and have now moved five points above Tottenham in the race for fourth place as well as just a single point behind title chasers Manchester City. The Premier League will now take a back seat, though, as Erik ten Hag's side face Everton in the FA Cup 3rd round on Friday before taking on League One's Charlton Athletic in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals.
