Diogo Dalot delivers early verdict on Antony from inside Man Utd dressing room

Antony has become an instant hit with Manchester United team-mates and fans following his goalscoring debut, according to Diogo Dalot.

United's new £85.5million signing marked his first appearance with the opener in Sunday's 3-1 win over Premier League leaders Arsenal at Old Trafford.

Brazil star Antony, who played under United boss Erik ten Hag at Ajax, was thrown straight into the starting line-up, despite having not played a match for three weeks. But the 22-year-old was immediately at home at the Theatre of Dreams, producing a clinical left-foot finish as Ten Hag's side ended Arsenal's 100 percent record this season.

United defender Dalot reckons Antony, who had only trained with his new team-mates for three days, is destined to succeed at the club because he is not overawed by anything.

“He's very good,” said Dalot. “He showed that in just two or three days, that he could come on and make the difference he made with a beautiful goal, a beautiful team goal.

"And I think he is one more player to help us. We want to build a very good squad this season, and with him we are going to have more quality.

"He has the advantage of knowing the manager, of course, and the way that the manager thinks."

"He's already adapted to the football side and now he's adapted to his new teammates - and I think you could see in the minutes that he played that he showed some character.

"He showed some desire, which I think I'm sure in saying that every fan will love that. And obviously, the quality that he has, the mentality that he has, I think he will improve us."

After a shambolic start to the season, losing 2-1 at home to Brighton and 4-0 at Brentford, United have reeled off four wins to climb to fifth in the table, just three points behind pacesetters Arsenal.

Dalot, who has impressed in the last four games and made the right-back position his own, believes Ten Hag has restored United's fighting spirit and given them a platform for success this season.

"I think it comes from the messages the manager passes to us, but the main point has been from ourselves, because to be at this club you have to fight for it,” said Dalot.

"You have to fight for 90 minutes every single game - and this is what we're trying to do - then I think the quality will come up.

"But the basics, the standards of the club are like this and if we continue to do this for a big period of time I think we will get success.

"But we know it's a marathon, not a sprint. This is going to be a long season and we need all the little points, the wins to build momentum and the win over Arsenal was a beautiful afternoon."
