Diggity Doughnuts in Bristol city centre permanently closes

A doughnut shop in Bristol city centre has confirmed permanent closure. Diggity Doughnuts made the announcement on social media, prompting comments from fans who said they were "gutted" it wouldn't be reopening.

The shop had been closed for several months but is only listed as "temporarily closed" on Google, and it had said at the start of the year that it was upgrading the shop. However, its website has since been removed and an update has been shared with customers.

A short message posted on Instagram the week before last said: "Many of you will have realised but we would like to inform you that we sadly have had to close. Thank you to everyone that visited us."

The caption reiterated: "We have sadly decided we will not be reopening. Thank you to everyone [that] supported us in the last year."

Its response to one of the comments added: "Just one of those things sadly. Maybe expected too much from doughnuts."

One customer wrote on Instagram: "Sad to hear this. We visited back in June and me and both my boys loved it." Another added: "Oh no gutted, me and my boys loved paying you a visit whenever we ventured into town."

The shop opened just off Nelson Street in November 2021, in a unit below the New Bridewell student accommodation - between Rough Trade and Rupert Street.

Dozens of people left five-star reviews online during its time of trading, with many customers commending the vegan selection and friendly staff. The last Google review, left only a week ago, promised "the best donut you've ever had".

The fan added: "These doughnut outclass Krispy Kreme in all ways. I hope it's only temporarily closed, I can't live without these and I wouldn't mind a price raise."

In the past couple of years, several doughnut cafes have opened in Bristol - Small Goods opened near Temple Meads in 2021, as well as vegan doughnut cafe Future Doughnuts nearby. London chain Crosstown opened a Bristol branch on Queens Road only last month.
