Manchester United fans are hoping that the club will sign a defensive midfielder in the summer. MEN Sport understands the position is high on their list of priorities, along with a young striker, ahead of the transfer window opening.
Scott McTominay has been deputising in the number six role this season, but doubt has been cast over his ability to play this role long term. Nemanja Matic would be the preferred option, but he turns 34 in the summer and his contract expires in June 2023.
So who do United fans want as their defensive midfielder next season? Declan Rice has been a player of interest to the club over the past few years, although Chelsea are also keen on the West Ham talisman.
