Diego Costa among five Wolves injury concerns ahead of West Ham Premier League fixture

Wolverhampton Wanderers could be without up to five of their first-team players due to injury when they take on West Ham United on Saturday.

While the Hammers will have had a full week to prepare for the tie, Wolves will kick off against David Moyes’ side at Molineux less than 72 hours after being knocked out of the Carabao Cup following a penalty shootout defeat to Nottingham Forest on Wednesday night.

For the defeat to the Tricky Trees, Julien Lopetegui’s side were without five players, including former Chelsea striker Diego Costa, who made his Old Gold debut against West Ham on October 1. Costa missed the defeat to Forest and Saturday’s FA Cup tie with Liverpool, although the issue is currently unknown publicly.

Midfielder Boubacar Traore is one of four long-term injury concerns for the Midlands outfit. Traore has currently got a groin issue that has kept him out of action for the last two months and winger Pedro Neto has missed more than three months of action after suffering ankle ligament damage in the defeat to West Ham at the London Stadium and is not due to return until next month.

Fellow wide attacker Chiquinho has missed the duration of the season after suffering an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury in pre-season which is set to keep him out until the summer. Striker Sasa Kalajdzic also suffered an ACL issue on his debut against Southampton, which also set to keep him out until the summer.

Meanwhile, West Ham have six concerns of their own. Centre-back Kurt Zouma, right-back Vladimir Coufal, striker Gianluca Scamacca (all knee), winger Maxwel Cornet (calf), midfielder Manuel Lanzini (groin), and goalkeeper Alphonse Areola (hip) all missed the FA Cup win over Brentford on Saturday.

Hammers boss David Moyes is set to provide an injury update on his squad ahead of facing Wolves in his press conference on Friday. football.london will be at the press conference, bringing you live updates, with Moyes due to start at around 1:30pm.
