Sevilla break silence
Sevilla director of football Monchi has broken his silence on the Diego Carlos deal - insisting Newcastle United's offer for the centre-back "wasn't enough".
The La Liga supremo has Carlos' agent encamped in the city demanding either a new improved deal for his client or a January move.

But Monchi claims Carlos is happy despite suggestions of unrest for the Brazilian defender.
Speaking to BBC Sport's Alex Bysouth, Monchi is quoted as saying: "The Newcastle offer has been a good offer, a respectable offer, I have to say that.
"But the offer, our board, our management team, felt that it wasn’t enough."
Agents stance
Diego Carlos' representatives have encamped themselves in Seville ahead of the January transfer window's grand finale.
The centre-back has watched on as Sevilla haggle with Newcastle United over a price with the Magpies determined not to be taken advantage of just months after their Middle East takeover conjured up the perception of unlimited spending power in the football world.
AC Milan and AS Roma have also been credited with interest in his services and in a window of twists and turns so far nothing can be discounted.
Carlos, who will be 29 in March, knows he may never get another pay day like the one on offer at Newcastle.
Asking price
Newcastle United's pursuit of Diego Carlos is not over yet - despite Sevilla's asking price getting close to astronomical levels.
Ahead of what is predicted to be a frantic final week of business in the January window for Newcastle, it looks like they will have to smash their transfer record to land the classy South American defender.

Carlos has been the subject of multiple bids and quotes between Newcastle and Sevilla with the player still open to the move.
The Magpies went in at €36million but that package - that included add-ons and incentives - was rejected by the La Liga side last week.
Enrique seal of approval
Jose Enrique has urged former side Newcastle United to not give up in their pursuit of Sevilla defender Diego Carlos.
However, the Magpies full-back has warned the club against a prospective deal for out-of-favour Manchester United attacker Jesse Lingard.
Kieran Trippier and Chris Wood have already signed at St James' Park this month, and speculation continues to mount over further deals in the closing days of the window.
