‘Didn’t think I’d fall in love so fast’: Clement reflects on one year as Rangers boss

Philippe Clement has reflected on his Rangers tenure so far as he approaches one year in the job.

The 50-year-old won the Scottish League Cup early into his new role but it hasn’t been too straight forward since.

Rangers lost out on both the Scottish Premiership title and Scottish Cup to their city rivals Celtic.

While they’ve also experienced wholesale changes at boardroom level, had to temporarily play their home matches away from Ibrox and tried to maintain standards despite a high squad turnover throughout the summer.

Despite that, Clement insists he’s fallen in love with the Rangers very quickly - and he especially enjoys the football mad culture of Glasgow.

Speaking to Sky Sports, the Belgian said: “A lot of things have happened in that one year, so it’s difficult to reflect back on one year.

“I’m happy that we won a trophy, but I would’ve wanted more. We were close on more but not good enough.

“A lot of things changed in the club, in the dressing room with the players, with staff in the board and everything. So, a lot of things have happened in this one year.”

Asked if he was prepared for the challenge that being Rangers boss brings, Clement replied: “I’m always prepared because I’m prepared for everything.

“There were no major things that I didn’t expect from before. Maybe I didn’t think to fall in love with this city, with this club so fast to be honest because I love being here.

“Because of all this passion, this is how I am about football. I breathe football from the first second that I’m awake until I fall asleep, and this city is also all about that. In that way it’s a good match.”
