Raphael Varane has been included in the France squad for their upcoming international fixtures, but that hasn't stopped head coach Didier Deschamps from highlighting both the centre-back's and Manchester United's struggles this season.
The four-time Champions League winner has been in and out of the squad since arriving from Real Madrid, with a host of injuries limiting his time in the United starting XI. United's defensive record this season is their worst in Premier League history, a stat which was only compounded by their 4-0 thrashing at the hands of Brighton last time out.
As a result of their defensive frailty, Varane's centre-back partner Harry Maguire has been heavily criticised, with some even claiming he should be stripped of the captaincy. Despite Varane's struggles this season, the United defender has been included in the France squad for their June outings, though there's no place for Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate.

Deschamps was asked about Varane's inclusion in the squad and he aimed a dig at United's current plight. "He (Varane) has not been at his best but is his club at its best? It is not the happiest period," the France boss said (via GFNF ).
"But aside from that, Raphael, he has such a story with us. He has sufficiently demonstrated what he is capable of doing too. Up to him to turn the recent trend around."
