Dharmendra is undeniably one of the most talented and most-respected actors we have in Bollywood. The veteran star has not only successfully proved his mettle in the industry but has successfully established himself as one of the superstars.
However, did you know that there was a time during his initial days when he had thought about giving up on his dreams of becoming an actor? Yes, you read that right! As the national winner of the Filmfare magazine’s new talent award, Dharmendra travelled from Punjab to Mumbai to work on the movie that was supposed to be made for the winner, but unfortunately that never happened. According to reports, the movie was never made. Disappointed, the actor struggled to keep afloat in this unknown city.
During those days, Dharmendra would meet up with the would-be actor Manoj Kumar. As both were struggling to make their mark, friendship blossomed between them. Dharmendra and Manoj Kumar were roommates and the latter would manage their expenses by working as a ghostwriter.
It was during this time that Dharmendra thought about calling it quits and returning home to Punjab. However, he was encouraged by Manoj to keep trying.
Manoj Kumar was roped in for 'Kaanch Ki Gudia' in 1960. Following which he persuaded Dharmendra to stay for another month since the new offer brought in the inflow of cash. Within a week, Dharmendra got his first break. He made his debut with Arjun Hingorani’s 'Dil Bhi Tera Hum Bhi Tere' in the same year, and the rest is history.
On the work front, Dharmendra will next be seen in Karan Johar's 'Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani' which also stars Ranveer Singh, Alia Bhatt, Shabana Azmi and Jaya Bachchan in lead roles. It is slated to hit the theatres in April next year.
Apart from this, he is also a part of 'Apne 2'. Directed by Anil Sharma, the film will also star Sunny Deol, Bobby Deol and Karan Deol.
