Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores’ detainment by the United States this weekend took the international community largely by surprise.
A series of overnight strikes on the capital of Caracas on January 3 resulted in Maduro being taken into U.S. custody, before being flown to New York.
