With all four No. 1 seeds eliminated from the men’s NCAA tournament, the entire tournament feels wide open with just eight teams remaining. Therefore, there is not one consensus choice for the best team still in the field.
However, one team in particular is gaining traction, and Dick Vitale is on board with that idea. The veteran analyst believes No. 4 seed UConn has looked like the favorite to win the National Championship thus far.
“The UConn success where [Dan Hurley)]’s Huskies have dominated their March Madness opponents by an avg of 21 ppg is bringing back memories of past championship years,” Vitale wrote on Twitter. “Best team left in tourney.”
Vitale joins several others, including fellow ESPN analyst Jay Bilas, who think the Huskies are playing at a championship level. Through three games, UConn has won each game by at least 15 points, including their most recent game vs. No. 8 Arkansas by 23.
To fulfill their potential, UConn will have to beat No. 3 seeded Gonzaga on Saturday night, which would get them to their first Final Four since 2014. Vitale certainly believes they can do it.
