Dick Van Dyke looks younger than his 96 years as he shops with his 50-year-old wife

Dick Van Dyke looks much younger than his 96 years as he shops with his 50-year-old wife Arlene Silver.

The legendary screen star headed out for a sweet lunch date in Malibu, California, with his second wife, after the couple had enjoyed a workout session at a nearby gym.

Hollywood icon Dick, known for his roles in big screen musicals Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and Mary Poppins, looked youthful in a pair of joggers and a sweatshirt that sweetly paid tribute to one of the best musicals of all time.

The grey top had a picture of a pile of critters covered in sugar, with the words “A Spoonful of Sugar” alongside it, a homage to a famous song from the 1964 Disney classic, which starred Julie Andrews as the famous British nanny.

Dick played chimney sweep Bert in the hit movie, and he proved he still had the moves when he appeared in the long-awaited 2018 sequel, Mary Poppins Returns, with Emily Blunt playing the singing titular character.

The American national treasure is 46 years old than his make-up artist wife, and they first met at the Screen Actors Guild Awards in 2007, when he was presenting Julie Andrews with a Lifetime Achievement Award.

Earlier this year, he spoke about their union as they celebrated 10 years of marriage, and said he expected more criticism of their relationship because he was much older than Arlene.

“I thought there would be an outcry about a gold digger marrying an old man,” he told Closer Weekly. “But no one ever took that attitude.”

Arlene, who is also a singer, recalled the moment she met Dick, and said she immediately recognised him as the lovable chimney sweep Bert.

“He said, ‘Hi, I'm Dick.’ The first thing I asked him was, ‘Weren't you in Mary Poppins?’” she quipped.

Arlene said they “got along immediately as friends”, and she confessed the age difference doesn’t bother her.

“He is the most perfect human being. I've never met anyone so happy, so genuine, so amazing. He's just like a happy pill,” she shared.

The screen legend was married to first wife Margie Willett from 1948 until 1984, and they had four children - Christian, Barry, Stacy and Carrie Beth.

Dick was then in a relationship with actress Michelle Triola Marvin for more than 30 years until her death in 2009, after a battle with lung cancer.
