Dick Van Dyke, 97, reveals key to youthful energy after spritely Masked Singer stint

Dick Van Dyke has revealed the key to his youthful energy after an impressively energetic appearance on The Masked Singer.

The Mary Poppins star, 97, wowed fans on the US version of the programme in which he appeared as Gnome.

Judge Nicole Scherzinger was in tears when the actor revealed his identity and now Dick has shared the secrets to his spritely stint on the show.

"Genes, I guess, for one thing," he said, before adding: "Having a beautiful young wife half my age to take care of me - that works!

"My positive attitude, I get that from my wife.

Dick went on to note: "And one other thing is, I wrote a book called Keep Moving: I still go to the gym three days a week and work out.

"And I advise everybody to do that, because that's what ages people — it's just a stiffening up and not exercising their muscles and their lungs. Exercise is the answer," reports Yahoo.

The Hollywood star showed he's still got it as he belted out a powerful rendition of When You're Smiling by Frank Sinatra on The Masked Singer.

The legendary performer took part in the latest series of the Fox show before being eliminated last week.

Pussycat Dolls star Nicole Scherzinger was overcome with emotion when she found out Gnome was Dick and said it was "an honour" to watch the actor perform on the show.

After the star revealed his identity, host Nick Cannon said: "This is the most seasoned and most decorated we've had on our show, ladies and gentlemen."

Dick was then asked what it was like to perform as the Gnome.

"It was really dark in there. I couldn't see anything," he joked.

Nicole gushed over the icon as she broke down in tears.

"I love you so much, we love you, the whole world loves you so much. It's an honour to have you on our show.

"I can't believe you're here, I'm trying to like play it cool. You look so gorgeous, you look so handsome," she said.

Nicole's fellow panellist Jenny McCarthy added: "I am so blown away," before Dick told the judges how old he is.

Judge Ken Jeong said Dick was the reason he decided to go into comedy, adding his unveiling as the Gnome was "our greatest reveal ever."

Dick then gave one final performance, treating the audience to a rousing rendition of Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious from the 1964 film Mary Poppins.
