Dianne Buswell has reunited with her father in Australia as he continues his battle with cancer.
The dancer, who made the Strictly Come Dancing final this year with celebrity partner Bobby Brazier, posted a selfie on Instagram of her and her father Mark.
She wrote: “And from the concert to having our first morning coffee. I’m home.”
In October, the Australian dancer, 34, appeared visibly emotional while appearing on spin-off show Strictly It Takes Two and later explained her dad Mark was suffering from ill health.
A few weeks later, she informed her social media followers that her father had started chemotherapy treatment.
Buswell wrote alongside a photo of him lying on a hospital bed: “I’m so proud of you, Dad, first round of chemotherapy today. I wish I could be there to hold your hand and support you in person but I do know that I’m making you so proud over here in my concert every week!”
Previously, Buswell opened up about her father’s diagnosis on her YouTube channel.
She shared: “I thought I would be very upfront and honest with you all. Last week I got some news about my dad’s health and I won’t go into detail, but obviously that affected me.
“Being away from home and not being able to support and help your family in a time of need is quite a difficult thing, so I did struggle a little bit last week in terms of that.”
She said her family were due to come to the UK for Christmas, but that his health issues meant she was to travel to Australia instead.
On Saturday, soap star Ellie Leach was crowned winner of Strictly Come Dancing 2023.
The former Coronation Street star, 22, became the competition’s youngest winner on Saturday evening, beating fellow semi-finalists Layton Williams and Nikita Kuzmin and Brazier and Buswell.
Speaking about what it was like to secure the glitterball trophy, the soap star said: “Words cannot describe how I am feeling right now and I cannot believe we have just won Strictly Come Dancing 2023.
“It’s been a life-changing opportunity and I’ve had the time of my life dancing with Vito every week.
“It has been so special and to be able to do it with such a great teacher has made it an experience I will never forget.
“Thank you so much for that, Vito, and thank you for finding the dancer in me. We couldn’t have won without the voting public, so a huge thank you to everyone at home who picked up the phone for us, we appreciate every single one of you!
“Finally, a big congratulations to all the finalists and all the 2023 cast, who are incredible and came alongside this journey with me.”
The winner is decided by public votes.
On the judges’ scoreboard, which was provided as a guideline, Williams and Kuzmin had been in the lead with a total of 119 points.
Second to them was Brazier and Buswell, who had received 117 points, and they were followed by Leach and Coppola with 115.
On social media after the final, Buswell paid tribute to Brazier, writing: “I used to be so obsessed with winning a sparkly trophy constantly thinking about that moment and what it would feel like!
“But what I have realised, dancing with this wonderful human, is that the win and the sparkle is everywhere if you want it to be. Last night Bobby and I danced with so much joy, passion and emotion that my heart was bursting with happiness and pride and there was our win!
“Bobby’s only competition in this show was himself – he wanted to become a better dancer and a better professional and to help him achieve both those goals makes me a proud teacher.
“I am so grateful that I was the lucky one to be partnered with [Bobby] and I am so excited for his bright future ahead – he is not just a real talent, but a really lovely soul. Thanks for making me enjoy my dancing like I was a little girl again – no fear, no anxiety, just love and passion for what I am able to do.”During the grand finale, Years And Years vocalist Olly Alexander announced he would be the UK entrant for the Eurovision Song Contest in 2024.
Last year, wildlife cameraman and presenter Hamza Yassin and professional dancer Jowita Przystal won the glitterball trophy.
