The Diamondbacks are acquiring outfielder Tommy Pham from the Mets, according to SNY’s Andy Martino.
Pham becomes another player to depart the Mets’ franchise ahead of MLB’s 6 p.m. ET trade deadline. The veteran outfielder signed a one-year deal to join the Mets during the off-season after splitting the 2022 season with the Reds and the Red Sox.
Now, the 35-year-old is headed to Arizona, a team that finds itself third in the National League West behind the Giants and the Dodgers. This season, Pham has posted a .268 batting average with 10 home runs and 36 RBI in 79 games.
Pham had one of his strongest hitting seasons in 2017 with the Cardinals, where he finished 11th in the NL MVP voting after posting a .306 batting average, 23 home runs and 25 stolen bases. However, since that ’17 campaign, the veteran has struggled to duplicate that success with stops along the way with the Rays, Padres, Reds and Red Sox prior to the Mets.
In recent days ahead of the league’s deadline, the Mets have parted ways with Justin Verlander (to the Astros), Max Scherzer (Rangers), David Robertson (Marlins) and Mark Canha (Brewers).
