Diablo 4 drops its biggest skill check to all players soon — can you beat your friends?

Army of demonic creatures wielding weapons.

Diablo 4 Season 11 has been the most fun I've ever had in a Diablo season, but I was pretty much done with the seasonal journey for the moment after storming the content with my OP Paladin.

Well, it looks like Diablo 4 is back on the menu boys, because we'll be jumping back in on Monday for the opening of the Tower.

Yep, Diablo 4's new leaderboard challenge is arriving as a Beta with Patch 2.5.2 on January 12, and I can't wait to see how my Paladin measures up against all my friends in Sanctuary (who are also playing Paladin because frankly who is playing any other class right now?!)

Everything you need to know about the Tower

The Tower and Leaderboards is very much a beta, so I'm sure we will have plenty of bugs to report as Blizzard lets us put it to the test.

The Tower is a timed dungeon of multiple floors, complete as many of these floors as possible within 10 minutes to earn your leaderboard rank. Each run will feature randomized tile sets, new enemy tactics and powerful temporary buffs from spawned Pylons. The more monsters you kill, and Orbs you collect, the higher your score.

When enough progress has been made, a boss will spawn, and you'll need to kill them before the 10 minutes is up.

The leaderboards will be split into categories covering Class, party size, Hardcore and Normal play as well as being filterable down to what platform is being played on (PC or console).

How do I unlock the Tower in Diablo 4?

You will need to have completed at least Rank 2 of the Season Journey.

Head to the Obelisk in Cerrigar (where you access The Pit). From here, you can run the Tower on any difficulty you have already completed The Pit on. You will have 10 minutes from exiting the first circle to complete the dungeon.

When will Leaderboards open and close?

Leaderboards will run in rounds of two-weeks from launch day until the end of the Season of Divine Intervention, so for example:

  • Round 1: January 12, 11:00 a.m. PST—January 26, 11:00 a.m. PST
  • Round 2: January 26, 11:00 a.m. PST—February 9, 11:00 a.m. PST

When the leaderboards close at the end of the season, they will be unavailable until the start of the next.

The start of an interesting year for Diablo 4

Season 11 has been fantastic so far, and I'm sure the Tower is going to give it yet another lease of life. This year as a whole is an exciting time for Diablo 4 as we inch closer to the launch of the Lord of Hatred expansion on April 28.

I'm both excited and nervous, though, with the expansion about to completely shake up the game again when it's in such a place of equilibrium.

There's also the question of what on earth is happening in February, with Blizzard's anniversary looming and the tease of something Diablo related being revealed in February. We already know about a second class coming in the expansion, so what is it? I'm seated to find out, but the Tower is just the start of an action packed year.
