Diabetes risks: Chemicals in nail polish, shampoo may raise type 2 diabetes risk in women by 63 percent, study suggests

If you are a regular user of beauty products like nail polish, shampoo, and fragrances, you may want to check their chemical contents. A new study has found that the toxic chemical found in such products, including hair spray and aftershave, can seep through the skin and cause damage to the liver, kidney, lungs and other organs. The study, published in the Endocrine Society's Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism, found that these endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs) were also linked to an increased risk of diabetes in women.

Phthalates are chemicals widely used in plastics such as personal care products, children's toys, and food and beverage packaging. Phthalate exposure is associated with reduced fertility, diabetes and other endocrine disorders.
