Department of Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin has accused Democrats of using rhetoric to unfairly demonize Immigration and Customs Enforcement and undermine President Donald Trump’s immigration agenda.
Speaking at a press conference in New York on Tuesday to announce the results of “Operation Rotten Apple” — a month-long statewide sweep targeting non-citizens with criminal records — Mullin argued that public backlash against federal immigration authorities was being driven primarily by political opponents rather than the agency’s actions.
