A man has died after being hit by a four-wheel drive near Mount Gambier in the second pedestrian fatality in less than a week in South Australia.
Police were called to the crash on Glenelg River Road at OB Flat, about 10 kilometres south of Mount Gambier, at 6pm last night after reports a Toyota four-wheel drive had hit a pedestrian.
The 37-year-old man, from the South East, died at the scene.
Major Crash officers travelled to the area to investigate.
The road was closed until early this morning.
Limestone Coast Superintendent Campbell Hill said the fatality was avoidable.
"The investigation in due course will address the factors involved there," he said.
He called for any witnesses or people with footage leading up to the crash to contact police.
"If they've been through the area, if they saw anything of any interest that they think we need to know about, we'd love to hear from them and likewise anybody travelling through that region with dashcam vision we will certainly be very keen to hear from," he said.
The man's life was the 35th lost on South Australia's roads this year, compared with 47 at the same time last year.
An elderly woman died on Monday night after being hit by a car on The Grove Way in Adelaide's north.
