A devastated young mum has been hit with a sanction on her Universal Credit payment following an admin blunder.

Charlie Cotton, 23, has ended up saddled with a debt at the worst possible time - even though the error was not her fault.

Charlie, from Stoke-on-Trent, went on maternity leave to look after her baby daughter Darcie at the end of 2021, and started receiving Universal Credit payments, Stoke-on-Trent Live reports.
