A devasted Vernon Kay has shared his heartbreak after the sudden loss of a close friend. The TV presenter, who is married to Strictly Come Dancing host Tess Daly, took to social media to post a moving tribute to Ian Trevor following his death aged 61.
Vernon, 48, had been friends for more than 25 years with the Formula E security manager, affectionately known to many as "Big Ian". The 48-year-old, who presents live coverage of Formula E, shared a photo of the two of them together alongside a tribute on Instagram.
He wrote: "I'm absolutely gutted to hear of the passing of my friend Ian. Ian was the close protection for all the @fiaformulae family but for me much more…
"Ian was the guy who looked after me when I was scouted by @selectmodellondon in Dec 96’ at the ClothesShowLive. 26yrs ago.
"We had a tight bond that’s unique with friends. Ian you’ll be greatly missed. Sending my love to his family. RIP."
Many of the father-of-two's followers shared their condolences in response to his post. TV presenter and motorsport reporter Nicki Shields commented: "Devastating. He loved you Vern. Every time I’d chat with Big Ian, the 2nd thing he would ask without fail… ‘Nick, is Vern here yet?’
"A true legend with the most infectious smile and positive energy. He will leave a huge hole in the paddock."
Another wrote: "No! Such sad news. What a gentle giant and a very funny and caring personality. He will be sorely missed by all. RIP". Someone else posted: "Ian was a lovely guy and I’ve known him for many years. He always spoke fondly of you. Sending my love to you at this sad time x."
