Detectives launch appeal after vehicles set on fire in Shotts

Detectives are appealing for information following two wilful fire raisings in Shotts.

Around 11.40pm on Monday, July 4, officers were called to a report of a Ford Mondeo on fire outside a property on Nevis Place.

A short time later, officers attended a report of an Audi Q3 car on fire outside a property on Herbison Crescent.

Both fires were quickly extinguished by the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service and nobody was injured as a result.

Extensive enquiries have so far revealed the fires were started deliberately.

At this stage, officers are not linking these incidents but are keeping an open mind.

Detective Constable Chris Smith, of Wishaw CID, said: “Thankfully nobody has been injured as a result of these reckless acts.

“While we are not linking these incidents at this stage, we are keeping an open mind about whether they are connected.

“I would ask anyone who was in the area at the time, and who may have seen anything suspicious, to get in touch.

“I am also keen to hear from anyone who may have dashcam footage that could assist our investigation.

“Anyone with any information is asked to contact Police Scotland via 101 quoting incident number 3846 of Monday, 4 July, 2022.

“Alternatively, information can be passed anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
