The Thamarassery depot of the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) has secured permission to operate pleasure trips to eight destinations as part of its new summer package for tourists. The tariff and other itineraries of each trip will be announced shortly.
The project is part of the KSRTC’s plan to operate 1,000 package tours to select local destinations across the State. For the ‘Mission 1000’, there is also a plan to hire a few more buses based on the total number of local bookings.
From Kozhikode, trips will be operated to Munnar, Malakkappara, Nelliyampathy, Alappuzha, Wayanad, Kochi, Palakkad and Nilambur. Group tours for general booking and exclusive trips for organisations will be available under the summer package.
Coordinators under the Thamarassery depot say the trips have evoked good response from passengers. Apart from the general trips, there were many who effectively used the Bus on Demand (BOND) service for various excursions, they add.
The recent package tours organised exclusively for women to celebrate Women’s Day had a very good number of takers. There were nearly 700 passengers who visited destinations like Nelliyampathy, Wayanad, Munnar and Malakkappara.
“The total income generated from the special trip alone was ₹7 lakh. It was the highest in the State,” said one of the coordinators of the trip at Thamarassery depot. He said several youths were found freely carrying out social media campaigns for the success of the KSRTC initiative.
The booking for summer packages will be made through the Budget Tourism Cell at the Thamarassery depot, which is entrusted with the district-level coordination of the tour packages. For details, contact: 9961761708 or 8547640704.
