Despite already being Bowser in the Super Mario movies, Jack Black wants to star in a live-action Yakuza adaptation: "I'm going to throw my hat in that ring"

Jack Black.

Jack Black might already have adaptations of multiple legendary video game franchises under his belt, but he wants to add another.

Black plays Bowser in The Super Mario Bros. movies and Steve in A Minecraft Movie (and he voiced Claptrap in the less well-received Borderlands movie), but, as it turns out, he also wants to appear in a live-action Yakuza project.

"So I'm going to throw my hat in that ring," Black told Screen Rant. "I don't know if there [are] any parts for me, like a portly American, but talk to me. Sega, give me a jingle."

As the name suggests, the Yakuza game series revolves around the yakuza, AKA Japanese crime syndicates. There have been live-action adaptations of the games before, including a feature film released in 2007 titled Like a Dragon: The Movie, and the Prime Video Like a Dragon: Yakuza released in 2024.

While Black waits for a call from Sega, though, you can soon see him reprising his role as Bowser in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, which lands this April 1. We'll have to wait and see if this movie sparks any Chicken Jockey-style chaos in the audience.

"I'm not allowed to say what they are, but yes, there are some really incredible… Well, I think some of them have been released in the trailer – Rosalina, Bowser Jr. – and then there's even a couple more that are not in the trailer that people should be excited to see," Mario star Chris Pratt told us earlier this year of new characters he's looking forward to seeing in the finished film.
