Desperate woman on wrong side of M1 bridge railings in Leeds shuts motorway for hours

Leeds M1 Police Lucy Bronze West Yorkshire

The M1 was closed in both directions for over an hour overnight after police were called to reports of a woman on the motorway bridge on the wrong side of the railings.

The M1 was closed J43 to J44 on the Northbound side near Rothwell, and J45 to J44 on the Southbound side from around 1am last night. West Yorkshire Police said negotiators were able to stop the woman from jumping.

The motorway fully reopened around 4.30am.
