DeShon Elliott ‘improving’ but Lions still unsure if he’ll be ready for Week 18

One of the big questions for the Detroit Lions as they prepare for a meaningful trip to Green Bay in Week 18 is the status of starting safety DeShon Elliott.

Elliott has missed the last two weeks with a shoulder injury, and the Lions have missed him — most notably in run defense. Coach Dan Campbell offered an update on Elliott’s status in his press conference on Monday.

“He wants to go (in practice),” Campbell stated. “He’s improving. We’re going to see what he looks like. Hopefully we’ll know a lot more tomorrow. We’re going to let him hit some sleds, see how the shoulder feels.”

In a positive development, second-year safety Ifeatu Melifonwu played well in his portion of the game as Elliott’s replacement.

Campbell concluded on Elliott with this,

“We know he wants to go and he’s improving.”

Elliott had a great game in the first meeting with the Packers, recording five tackles and breaking up a pass in Detroit’s 15-9 win back in Week 9. He’s second on the team with 91 total tackles despite missing three games.
