Disney+ is set to release a new installment in the Descendants franchise titled 'Descendants: The Rise of Red,' featuring Uma, the daughter of Ursula, played by China Anne McClain. In this exclusive first look, Uma takes on a new role as the Principal of Auradon Prep, promising to shake things up by opening the school to all kingdoms, including Wonderland.
The original Descendants trilogy, based on The Isle of the Lost book series, aired on Disney Channel from 2015 to 2019, following the lives of teenage children of famous Disney villains. The series included characters like Mal, Evie, Jay, and Carlos, portrayed by Dove Cameron, Sofia Carson, Booboo Stewart, and the late Cameron Boyce, respectively.
In 2021, an animated special titled 'Descendants: The Royal Wedding' was released, focusing on the nuptials of Mal and King Ben. This special marked the first Descendants production without Cameron Boyce, who passed away in 2019.
The upcoming 'Descendants: The Rise of Red' will introduce new characters like Red, the daughter of the Queen of Hearts, and Chloe, the daughter of Cinderella. The film will also feature familiar faces like Brandy and Paolo Montalban reprising their roles as Cinderella and Prince Charming.
The movie will also include Dara Reneé as Ursula’s sister Ulyana, and the production has already begun, with a planned release on Disney+ later this year. Reneé expressed her excitement about working with Brandy, calling her a role model and expressing gratitude for the opportunity.
Stay tuned for 'Descendants: The Rise of Red' on Disney+ for a time-traveling adventure to prevent a coup on Auradon, featuring a mix of new and beloved characters from the Descendants universe.
