Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is embarking on a fundraising effort to raise $10 million for former President Donald Trump through the super PAC Right for America. The fundraising push will span multiple states, with events expected to kick off in July and continue through September in states like Texas, California, and Washington.
The super PAC is overseen by Trump ally Sergio Gor, with significant contributions coming from billionaire and former Marvel Entertainment chairman Ike Perlmutter. DeSantis, Perlmutter, and a group of DeSantis donors recently met, during which Trump joined in for a 10-minute phone call to discuss the fundraising efforts.
Despite being former rivals in the 2024 primary, the conversation between Trump and DeSantis was described as jovial and reminiscent of their interactions in 2019. They bantered about their golf games and briefly touched on campaign matters, with Trump requesting DeSantis' assistance with Right for America, to which DeSantis agreed.
According to sources present during the call, the exchange was characterized by warmth and friendliness, with discussions revolving around golf and mutual support. DeSantis highlighted his successful fundraising track record in 2020 and pledged to replicate it in 2024, a commitment that Trump appreciated.
Following their meeting in Florida last month, DeSantis and Trump have engaged in phone conversations at least twice, indicating a growing collaboration between the two political figures in support of the fundraising initiative for Right for America.
