An Irish star had their name mispronounced during an award ceremony and Twitter users were very quick to come together and point out the blunder.
On Friday night actress Saoirse-Monica Jackson, star of the hit series Derry Girls, took home the award for Best Comedy Performance at the National Comedy Awards.
The 29-year-old northern Irish actress snagged the award in a star-studded ceremony hosted by Tom Allen. However, while the actress was overjoyed with the recognition, many were quick to point out that the host incorrectly pronounced her name.

There was not consensus on the pronunciation either, with many saying the presenter called the actress “sauce” with others said she pronounced it as “source”. Either way, the traditional Irish name was clearly not pronounced correctly.
It seems to be generally accepted outside of the country that Irish names are a bit difficult to pronounce. Earlier this year research revealed the 10 hardest names for people in the UK to pronounce, with Irish names dominating the list.
The most difficult name for people in the UK to pronounce is Aoife, with Saoirse coming in second.
One Twitter user said: “No way did they just pronounce Saoirse Monica Jackson’s name like ‘sauce’ on the comedy awards.”
“Two Brits pronouncing Saoirse Monica Jackson’s name as “SOURCE” at the #nationalcomedyawards they didn’t even TRY, how stupidly ignorant,” another added.
One more said: “Not the award presenter BUTCHERING Saoirse-Monica Jackson's name on the comedy awards…”
Another Twitter user chimed in asking: “Have they just called Saoirse-Monica Jackson ‘sauce’? Are they all p***ed here #TheNationalComedyAwards.”
One more added in: “Not them mispronouncing Saoirse Monica Jackson’s name.”
However, in the midst of people pointing out the blunder, many still posted congratulating Jackson for her win, with one person posting: “Well done Saoirse Monica-Jackson. Well deserved.”
