Derry Girls is adored by thousands of people - but these harsh reviewers gave it one star

While many of us are experiencing the highs and the lows, like the reality of the show ending soon, of Derry Girls season three, some haven’t taken to it as well.

The Channel 4 series, created by Lisa McGee, quickly became a cult phenomenon.

Fans of Derry Girls take to Twitter every Tuesday to Tweet alongside the latest episode, commenting on the interesting cameos, the hilarious jokes and the scenarios the group get themselves into.

However, a few people feel differently about the show as most of us do, choosing to post their opinions on IMDB.

Of the 229 reviews left, just ten of them give the show one star. The majority of reviews give the show a ten, and rightly so!

Some of the lower reviews are genuine, whereas there are a few that we’re not really sure what they’re getting at.

One reviewer who left one star said it was “garbage” and that it was the “only TV show in history that has no writer attached”.

“How did this garbage get made? The actors got together and made up some awful dialogue. WOEFUL,” the post said.

One person, who described themself as the “target demographic” as they are “young, British, female” said that it “really tainted my opinion of Northern Ireland”.

They also said: “So the main characters are hyper and annoying to the point where I'd punch them if I meet them in real life. The characters are so self-obsessed and ignorant.

“I even have to change the channel on TV, if I see their adverts come up."

One apologetic poster wrote: “I didn't laugh once but I did cringe a fair few times, sorry.

“Although looking at the majority of the reviews on here there are obviously a lot of people who did enjoy it but I'm afraid I wasn't one of them and I'm actually quite easily amused.”

Another wrote: “The Northern Irish die-hard will still force laugh at this rubbish, and I suppose the Emperor's new clothes situation will arise when the wee man shouts out in the crowd, ‘This just isn't funny’.

“The mass of fools turn around and ‘Yes, yes, you are right, wee man’.

“It is as funny as give my head peace on a good night.”

Another asked: “Irish or copy of cheap American sitcoms?”

Each to their own, but for those excited to see the next episode of Derry Girls, it’s on at 9pm on May 3 on Channel 4.
