Derry City and Strabane District Council have dismissed claims football pitches in the city will be closed and turned into a new recycling centre.
It comes after Sinn Fein councillor Christopher Jackson said he was inundated with messages from local residents over claims that the Lisnagelvin football pitches in the Waterside area could be turned into a dump.
Speaking at an Environment and Regeneration Committee meeting last week, Cllr Jackson gained the support of other councillors from across the chamber in relation to the matter.

He said: "Council have confirmed the recycling centre is not being relocated to Lisnagelvin pitches.
"I was delighted to get unanimous support when I proposed that any plans to find a new site excludes the pitches at Lisnagelvin. People have had their concerns raised needlessly."
A spokesperson for the council confirmed while the Lisnagelvin playing fields were not being considered, other sites in the Waterside were being looked at as potential dump sites in the future.
Chair of the committee, Alderman Keith Kerrigan, said: "Members heard from Council Officers that given the constraints with the current recycling facilities that it would be appropriate to look for other appropriate potential sites in the Waterside area and that they will bring an update report to members in due course.
"The potential sites to be scoped will not include Lisnagelvin Playing Pitches.”
