Dermot Gallagher believes Newcastle United should've been awarded a penalty when Wolves midfielder Matheus Nunes pulled Sean Longstaff's shirt inside the box.
The score was still goalless when Longstaff went down inside the penalty area under a challenge from Wolves' summer signing Nunes.
The incident was overlooked by referee Peter Bankes but Gallagher believes it was the wrong decision not to award a penalty.
"All I can think is that they believe he [Nunes] hasn't impacted on the forward [Longstaff], but for me, it is a penalty," Gallagher revealed on Sky Sports' Ref Watch.
"You watch how long he has got [hold of] of his shirt for. It has got to be a penalty."
However, Gallagher does agree with Bankes' decision not to send off Newcastle defender Fabian Schar for his late challenge on Pedro Neto.
Although Gallagher admitted that the challenge wasn't good, he does not believe that it was 'leg-breaking', as some have described it.
"I've read so much about this today, but I don't think it was the leg-breaking tackle that I've read about. It's not a nice tackle, but I didn't think it was a red card," Gallagher said.
Wolves thought they had doubled their advantage when Raul Jimenez bundled home Neto's cross during the final 10 minutes.
Bankes subsequently reviewed the incident on the pitchside monitor and correctly deemed Neto to have pushed Ryan Fraser in the build-up. Gallagher again declared that the correct decision was made and described it as the 'perfect use' of VAR.
Gallagher said: "It was the perfect use of VAR.
He added: "VAR alerted the referee and told him you need to go to the screen and look at this. It's a foul [on Fraser]. They got the decision absolutely right."
