Dermot Desmond's Celtic check in promise as Ange Postecoglou jokes about supremo's first phone call 'in a year'

Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou joked he had his first phone call in over a year from Parkhead supremo Dermot Desmond after their shock loss at St Mirren.

Having won the opening six of their Scottish Premiership games, Celtic travelled to St Mirren fresh off the back of a Rangers demolition and with a spring in their step following a draw away at Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League. However, the Buddies ran riot with Mark O'Hara and Jonah Ayunga scoring either side of half-time to consign the Parkhead outfit to their first loss of the season on Scottish soil.

Still remaining two points ahead of Gio van Bronckhorst 's men, there is little to worry about for the reigning champions with Motherwell set to visit Celtic Park on Saturday; although Postecoglou opened up on his relationship with the Irish tycoon, quipping that Desmond rang him for the first time in over a year following their loss to Stephen Robinson's side despite bringing the Hoops a season of glory last campaign.

"I've got a great relationship with Dermot. He was the first person I spoke to when I first interviewed for the role and the only thing I can think about him is he's very supportive," the Australian joked.

Postecoglou, who is known for his jovial and jokey manner around the club, then quipped that Desmond had only phoned in once when he lost and not after the unrivalled success he had brought to the club in the year prior.

Postecoglou said: "He said to me at the outset he would only call me after we've had a loss, so I haven't spoken to him in a year and we had a good chat. He's been very supportive."

"There's a real whole club purpose to what we are doing at the moment. There aren't too many distractions and we aren't allowing ourselves to take away from what our focus is.

"That can only happen if everyone is on the same page and as the manager of the club I couldn't be happier with the support I've been getting from all levels."
