Derek McInnes slams VAR and insists Kilmarnock get 'zilch' claiming it's 'ridiculous'

Derek McInnes has slammed VAR as his side were yet again on the wrong side of poor officiating.

The Kilmarnock boss watched his side draw 1-1 at home to St Johnstone on Saturday, with a number of major VAR calls stealing the headlines.

Kyle Vassell saw a goal ruled out for handball in the first half, which seemed harsh but technically falls within the rules.

But as they chased a 2-0 lead which would have all but secured three points, Andrew Considine clearly handled the ball in the penalty area, but despite a lengthy check from VAR no penalty was given.

Another second half penalty was also denied for Killie after debate from VAR when Dan Armstrong was pulled to the ground, but it was adjudged to have finished outside the box despite Killie appeals.

And McInnes revealed even the Saints defender was expecting a penalty to be given for handball.

The Killie boss said: “He [Considine] was like that to me: ‘I don’t know how I got away with that.’

“He knew right away it hit his arm. It’s fully extended.

“I said to the referee, ‘Why we’re you not asked to look at that?’ He said VAR said they’d checked it and there was no need to look at it.

“I thought the referee had a decent game, but it’s like VAR was brought in to help and aid the referees and get them that chance to have a second look at things.

“I think we seem to be looking at so many things that aren’t needing looked at again and not so many things we should be looking at again, particularly that penalty kick.

“It’s frustrating. If you look at us, we have had zilch. Honestly, it’s ridiculous. We don’t seem to get any breaks.”
