Derek McInnes believes Rangers have to get Alfredo Morelos fit enough to start the second leg of their Champions League play-off with PSV.
The Kilmarnock manager was part of the Light Blues team which put the Dutch heavyweights to the sword in 1999 and they meet once again one stage away from group stage luxuries. The first leg comes at Ibrox on Tuesday before the return leg in Eindhoven eight days later.
Morelos is on the comeback trail from an injury which ruled him out for five months, and has only appeared from the bench this season. New signings Tom Lawrence and Malik Tillman have helped plug an attacking hole while Antonio Colak has three goals in three games leading the Rangers line. All three were crucial in Giovanni van Bronckhorst's men overturning a 2-0 third qualifying round deficit picked up in Belgium against Union-Saint Gilloise into a 3-2 aggregate win with a storming Ibrox performance.
Another terrible away trip can't be had according to McInnes, who believes the Colombian must be called upon. Writing in his Daily Mail column, he said: "It’s too early to judge the new arrivals but the signs from Tom Lawrence and Malik Tillman are good. Morelos being back and another week on can help. Maybe even more so in the away game.
"Antonio Colak has similarities but Morelos just has more to his game. If he can improve his fitness and be ready to start, then having him to lead the line over in Eindhoven will be important .
"A lot of Rangers’ bigger Ibrox performances last season came in the second leg, so this is a reversal. I think they will need two big performances. They won’t getaway with one as they did against Union."
