New Kilkenny boss Derek Lyng has finalised his management team, with former teammates Michael Rice and Peter Barry involved.
There are links to the previous regime too with Conor Phelan remaining on board having been drafted in as a selector earlier this year ahead of what proved to be Brian Cody’s 24th and final season at the helm.
It had been mooted that Phelan was in line to replace Lyng as under-20 manager.
Mickey Comerford will continue as strength and conditioning coach and will share that role with John Murphy, who continues to play club hurling with Clara.
Additionally, Peter O’Donovan will join Rice, Barry and Phelan as a selector. O’Donovan is vice-principal at Castlecomer Community School.
Rice, who picked up eight All-Ireland medals over the course of his playing career, was part of Lyng’s under-20 management team this year as Kilkenny won the All-Ireland at that grade.
Lyng won the first of his two All-Irelands alongside Barry in 2002 and ‘03, with the James Stephens clubman also part of Cody’s first Liam MacCarthy Cup winning team in 2000.
