Derek Adams returns to former club months after Ross County debacle

Derek Adams has made another shock return to a former club - this time it's Morecambe.

The highly experienced coach infamously re-joined Ross County for a third stint in charge of the Staggies last season in November. He left Morecambe to take over in the Highlands.

However, Adams lasted just 79 days after an ill-fated spell in Dingwall, as he quit with the club badly struggling in the Scottish Premiership.

He created controversy by claiming the club he'd left, Morecambe, were '100 times better' than County, as he blasted the standard of Scotland's top flight following a last-gasp home defeat to Dundee. He branded the quality of the league as 'shocking'.

Don Cowie took over in an interim role and guided the club to safety with a comfortable 6-1 victory over Raith Rovers in the play-off final.

Now, Adams is back in management just a few months on from leaving County - and he's back in familiar surroundings.

"I’m looking forward to it," the 48-year-old said. "Morecambe FC is a club I know well from my previous two spells at the football club, and I am looking forward to getting started.

"There is a lot of work to be done over the transfer window to get ready for the start of the new season, and I know the Board of Directors were looking for a manager who knows the football club and how it works.

"I’m delighted to come back and try and help the football club move forward again. This will come not only through myself, my staff, and the players, but the supporters of the football club as well who have been through a really difficult period."

Morecambe ply their trade in League Two of England.
