Derby County play down Championship link for Ireland prospect

Derby County insist they have no intention of selling Ireland prospect Eiran Cashin in this transfer window.

The Ireland Under-21 international has been in exceptional form for the League One club and has been linked with Championship side Norwich City.

But the Rams, who are vying for playoff contention, have no plans to cash in on the well-regarded centre-back who has 18 months left to run on his current deal.

Ireland senior international Jason Knight is a team-mate of Cashin’s and has also been the subject of transfer speculation.

But Derby boss Paul Warne insists he is not looking to sell any of his players and vowed to keep hold of Cashin, 21, this month.

Warne told the Derby Telegraph: "There was a bid for one of our players earlier in the window which was a speculative bid that was nowhere near it.

"I have spoken to the player, he is aware of it. We've moved on and nothing has changed.”

Warne continued: "If you're insinuating Cashin to Norwich or anything crazy like that because six people on twitter said it, it's definitely not true.

"If it is true I'd be amazed the chief exec hasn't told me because even more so I spoke to the head of football at Norwich in the last few hours.

"In that respect there have been no bids, nobody is for sale and there is zero benefit of me selling anyone because my job is to run the team, not a personal mortgage system.

"It would have to be stupid money for us to sell anyone and I would have to be pretty stupid to sell anyone. I can't be any more strong about that."
