Derby County ‘off the market’ as Turki Alalshikh abandons proposed takeover

  • Saudi government official and boxing powerbroker Turki Alalshikh has abandoned his proposed takeover of Championship football club Derby County.
  • Discussions regarding the acquisition of a controlling interest by Alalshikh’s Lion Sport ended despite receiving approval from both the Independent Football Regulator and the EFL last week.
  • Derby County confirmed they are now “off the market” and will continue to operate under the loyal support of current owners Clowes Developments.
  • Alalshikh explained his decision on social media, stating that the prolonged regulatory approval process left insufficient time to adequately prepare the team for the upcoming season.
  • While the takeover has been called off for the current campaign ahead of Derby's season opener against Charlton, Alalshikh indicated he remains open to future conversations with the club.
