A photo album of a beloved sausage dog, a mural of UFC superstar Conor McGregor and pictures of cheese have all been used to bring drug-dealers to justice.
The infiltration of the EncroChat phone network was the biggest boost to UK policing against organised crime in decades, if not ever. The heavily encrypted phones, costing around £1,200 for a three month contract, were almost exclusively used by criminals, according to the National Crime Agency (NCA).
However, after several years of investigating the network, the French police obtained a court order to infiltrate its networks in January 2020, allowing unprecedented access into the inner workings of crime gangs.
