Denise Welch stuns Loose Women co-stars with 'secret' role from her TV past

Denise Welch has exposed a 'secret' from her TV past, much to the surprise of her Loose Women co-stars, who couldn't fathom why she was signed up for such a role.

The topic of Denise's career in television was raised numerous times on the ITV lunchtime show, as the panel,. particularly host Charlene White, shared their excitement at the news that Byker Grove is returning, after its biggest stars, Ant and Dec, revealed big news of the reboot on Tuesday morning.

Over he shoe's 17 year run on CBBC, the Byker Grove cast also included big names like Jill Halfpenny, Donna Air, Charlie Hunnam and Denise herself, who played Polly, the mam of character Dionna in the Newcastle set series' early days. Denise, who described her Byker Grove alias as 'a tart with a heart' was asked by Charlene if she'd had a call from Ant and Dec to go back, to which she revealed that she hadn't, but added that she did used to help the now famous TV presenters with their homework backstage, with them even appearing on her edition of This is Your Life in the 90s.

Several of the Loose Women didn't realise Denise had ever been on Byker Grove and there was even more shock, when the Geordie star dropped the bomb that she once hosted a DIY programme. That revelation was made as Denise and her colleagues discussed how good they were with DIY, with Denise's former job coming as even more of a surprise, given that she admitted that she was 'totally useless' at anything to do with home improvement.

Denise let slip that she once fronted a series called The Real DIY Show, with a poster advertising the show then flashing up on screen, along with the tag line 'License to drill,' as Denise explained: "we had to transform this house, with experts, over 10 weeks. I was meant to be sidling up to the experts like 'Tell us Maureen, how do you do this? I didn't have a clue!"
