Denise Van Outen says she’s proud she walked away from fiancé Eddie Boxshall

Denise Van Outen has said she was “really proud” of herself for calling off her marriage with her fiancé Eddie Boxshall.

The defiant star, 47, said she doesn’t like being taken advantage of in a new interview where she shed light on the end of her seven-year romance.

Admittedly the former Dancing on Ice star said sometimes her break ups have been at the “detriment” of her own career and relationships.

But the TV personality insisted it was important to maintain “self-worth and self-respect”.

Speaking on Radio 2 Tuesday morning, she said: “The one thing I’m really proud of myself for is I do know when to walk away and I don’t like to be taken advantage of.

“Sometimes it’s been to the detriment of my own career or in my own relationships, but I just feel like it’s really important as a woman to have self-worth and self-respect.

“I’ve always tried to maintain that in anything that I do in life, generally. More so now as a mother because I feel like I’m a role model and I’ve got to set an example.”

The exes previously appeared on Celebrity Gogglebox together and they lived at a home in Essex.

Van Outen has daughter Betsy, 11, with Lee Mead while Boxshall had two children from a previous relationship.

The actress broke her silence on the end of her relationship saying she was looking forward to the future.

She continued: “Do you know what? The bad times are always followed by good times and that’s what I always look forward to.

“I think you just ride the wave of the bad times knowing that eventually you will get to a good place.”

Previously, her spokesman said: “Denise is understandably upset about the news, but she remains optimistic for the future.

“Her priority is looking after her daughter and continuing to work on the many exciting projects she has coming up this year.”
